I’ve consulted several. One book featured Cree and I became friends with an amazing First Nation chap who gave me so much help. Also had a book featuring a Punjabi hero and I had several Indian folk who helped with language, customs, food, etc.

At times I have a title before I even have an idea of what the book is going to be about.
But I admit I often have no title at the start of writing then usually at some point in the journey it names itself.

I have no idea if there still is. About 6 years ago there was a group of aspiring authors that I actually mentored until Covid.

I have done a couple of online guest mentoring since then.

I’m extremely flattered that you think I wrote #1 or #3 and no-one guessed my writing (or was it because #2 was so bad or too good…lol).
The first quote was from Chris Carter – The Executioner.
The third from Robert Thorogood – Death Knocks Twice.
#2 was mine from the book I’ve almost finished writing – Cookies and Crime.

#1 Brindle’s inquisitive stare stayed on the blood trail for a moment before moving to Hunter.
#2 Just off the staircase a rather overweight, unknown man lay in a large pool of congealing blood.
#3 There was only the smallest of blooms of blood seeping onto the man’s grey shirt above the heart area.

#WritersCoffeeClub – 21 Feb. Share an unexpected critique you’ve received. Why did it surprise?

I once received a DNF review. The person said she was shocked by the explicit scenes and language. She quoted a couple of sections saying how disgusting they were. Mentioned she had only read the first 50 pages before giving up.
What surprised me was 1) all blurbs about my books share warning about explicit sex and language;
2) there were only 4 sex scenes in the entire book of 375 pages covering maybe 4 or 5 pages each;
3) one of the sections she mentioned was at the end of the book, around page 350.

Not ridiculous place but I always write while having my check-up scans, x-rays, etc and waiting for the results. Usually spend about 3 or 4 hours at the cancer clinic so it’s a good time to write and forget about why I'm there.
